Check your MC authority status
Enter a USDOT or MC number to see the public FMCSA authority status (pending, active, or inactive) and what is still missing, including the BOC-3 and insurance. The checker reads FMCSA's common, contract, and broker authority fields. It does not use the allowed-to-operate flag, and it does not promise when FMCSA will grant authority.
What each status means
- Active. At least one authority type is active. FMCSA grants that only after the BOC-3 and insurance are on file.
- Pending. FMCSA returned an explicit pending status. The BOC-3 and insurance are what is usually still needed, along with the protest period after the FMCSA Register notice. FMCSA controls that timing.
- Not active. A docket is on file and no authority type is active or inactive, and FMCSA did not return an explicit pending status. The BOC-3 and insurance are what is usually still needed.
- Inactive. Authority was granted and is not active now. A lapsed insurance filing or a missing BOC-3 is the usual cause.
